Almost four centuries ago, the Vatican established the Vatican Observatory (Specola
Vaticana) as a historical research and educational institution supported by the Holy See, with an emphasis on scientific research and discovery. Originally based in the Tower of
the Winds within the Vatican in Rome, the Vatican Observatory is now headquartered at the summer residence of the Pope and a nearby convent in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. Here, at
